Within recent years, Stand Cricket club has been accessed by people inside and outside of the community, with the club becoming a popular attraction, whether that be to watch a spot of cricket in the sun, or for private functions. This highlighted the club’s need to refurbish and revamp our facilities to provide a higher level of comfort and accessibility for our community.
Club regeneration
A grant application was accepted from Valencia Community Fund in October that enabled the club to submit a planning application to improve and extend our facilities. This was accepted from the local council recently.
The Heritage Statement for the club stated that “the buildings themselves are in dire need of refurbishment,” supporting our cause to be successful.
The development of our club included an extension of the pre-existing facilities that have not been updated for 50 years prior to this! The refurbishment include brand new toilets (just finished), as well as new changing facilities and showers for our cricket players to use. This will also include the building of a new and inclusive third changing room, for players to have access to. The new and improved changing facilities will be open and ready to use in time for the season start in April.
Future plans, following the acceptance of a funding grant applications, include refurbishing our existing scoreboard building into a social area for our members. Our scoreboard room is no longer in use, as it was replaced by a digital scoreboard last season. This smaller function room will also act as another room for community use and private hire for functions as well as a smaller bar area.
We also plan to improve access to our club by building a single-storey porch area at the rear of the building to our main clubhouse. This will add another access point for pedestrians, allowing the main entrance to be kerbside to Higher Lane. Which included removing the large birch tree near the existing changing rooms. The original tree will be replaced by new trees that are substantially sized.
We’re planning on improve our existing outdoor seating from its crumbling state to a raised decking feature.
This is such an exciting time for our club and the community!
