As the 2025 cricket season drew to a close, we were treated to one final rollercoaster of emotions. Just three weeks ago, our 1st XI looked set for relegation. But after league changes meant only two teams would go down, everything hinged on the final fixtures. Against all odds, our 1st XI battled to a remarkable victory over a strong Walshaw CC side, securing all six points. With Saddleworth losing on the same day, survival was sealed and our 1s stayed up.
Meanwhile, the 2nd XIโs crucial match against Heywood was abandoned due to the weather, but the two points gained were enough to guarantee their place for next season as well.
Saturday evening wasnโt just about league drama; it was also a night of recognition and celebration. Stand CC hosted both the Junior and Senior Player Presentations, bringing together players, families, and supporters to reflect on achievements across the club.
Although Sundayโs final senior fixture was cut short by rain after just 10 overs, the season closed with a strong sense of relief, pride, and gratitude. From players and volunteers to staff, sponsors, and every supporter who cheered us on or joined us at events like the beer festival, this year proved once again that Stand CC is built on community spirit.
And while the league season may be over, the club calendar certainly isnโt and we have plenty of events are lined up for the months ahead.
