Cricket News March 2023

20 Mar 2023

As the season is nearly upon us we have a few things to update you all on.

Junior cricket

It’s the last indoor nets for our Junior section this Sunday 2nd April. Outside junior training will start on Friday 14th April from 6.15pm-7.30/8pm (light dependent) where we will welcome back our Eagles. We are also on the lookout for anyone wishing to volunteer time to help on a Friday evening, this could be coaching or even on the gate. Email juniors@stand.co.uk if interested. We are still interested in recruiting 14-17s to bolster our U18s side.

Pre-season preparation

We will be having our first clean-up day on Saturday 1st April, 10am-5pm. As our 1st team season is starting one week early we do not have a lot of time to get the ground ready, so we need all the help we can get. Jobs on the clean-up day will include painting, digging, litter picking, cleaning, reattaching covers etc… so please come dressed appropriately.

Cricket and membership news

Membership has been frozen again at £60, but are now due (playing, social, and junior), this will also grant you access to your club bar card which will get you 10% off all drinks purchased. You can pay online or over the bar.

The decision has been made not to appoint a Professional this season, as Chris is still playing and taking over the 1ST XI captaincy. We are however strengthening the 1ST team with additional players, with the view this will have a knock on effect for the 2nd and 3RDXI teams. Andy McGuinness, Alex Menzhausen and James Deeley join us for 2023, with Dylan also returning as our Overseas player this season.

All players (seniors and juniors) need to complete your Crick HQ registration for the new season. This will cost £10 for seniors and is free for juniors. Please follow this link to complete: https://www.gtrmcrcricket.co.uk/pages/crichq-registration-guide

The 1st team take on Wythenshawe CC at Stand in a pre-season friendly on 8th April – weather dependent!

1st XI season starts 15th April at Home v Astley and Tyldesley CC 1st XI

2nd XI season starts on 22nd April at Home v Edgworth 2nd XI

3rd XI season starts on 23rd April at Home v Golborne CC 3rd XI

Match fees are increasing to £8 for adults and £5 for juniors/students per game this season (the first increase in well over a decade!). This is due to the 40% increase on umpires fees, and teas now being mandatory for the club to provide for 1st team matches. The Committee has taken the decision to provide teas for all three Senior teams as a result, but this comes with a cost, hence the increase in match fees.

We are always on the lookout for any new scorers. If you have any potential candidates please get in touch.

Club regeneration

Our brand new 28-digit digital scoreboard has been installed and our four brand new sight screens have been delivered. Our new bar has been fitted and is looking amazing, we are also having the inside of the club decorated in the next few weeks. The bigger project for new changing rooms continues to progress. Further updates will follow as and when available. We are also looking to update our current changing room facilities as best we can.
